So it has a couple choices.blow the top of the bottle (the cap) Blow up the bottle, or seek the path of least resistance and dive back into the beer, and get absorbed .

“Over a 6 month period a typical crown cap will allow approximately 1500 ppb of O2 to enter the bottle. Bottles with more than 600 ppb O2 will show definite signs of staling in 6 months. The Oxygen barrier cap limits the O2 ingress to (if you do not sanitize, as the sanitizer and water will have O2 negating any positive effects.) ~125 ppb . They'll probably seal, but it's not worth it. I had to resort to used caps one time with a batch of hard cider on a Sunday afternoon . I think I had about a 60-percent success rate with them. Definitely not how you want to save .75 a batch. But . used bottle caps are great for sealing your beer bottles after rising the yeast off the bottom! I use o2 barrier caps, so soaking them is out due to the o2 barrier layer getting activated before crimping onto a bottle. I dunk them in Starsan right before placing on a bottle. when I crimp the cap down, I tilt the bottle to wet the cap with beer. works for me.
He's pretty responsive to email. He got me a quote for 300 caps (50 each of 6 different cap/ink color combinations). Looks like about a 2 week lead time from payment to receiving them. They're doing the 300 for me at the 500-1000 rate ( The others I have used are the unique "homebrew" caps with the specific styles in the middle. But you also have the option of completely doing a custom design if that's exactly what you're looking for. I have used them a few times. They're a bit pricey for caps (their homebrew style caps are .99 for 60), but they're pretty sweet looking..19 each). Their standard caps colors are red, black, blue, green, orange, yellow, silver gold & white.
It states on their site that they only offer white caps, but are working on getting others. The previous pictures in the thread appear to be the white caps as well. I haven't ordered any, but I am considering it for a batch I'll be doing in the spring (still have plenty of time for them to offer more base colors or completely go out of business . Once you have properly capped a bottle no beer will ever come in contact with the metal (or rust) since the gasket fully coats the inside of the cap. Any rust will remain outside of the seal. So I don't see any risk there. I'd be more concerned about people seeing unsightly rusty bottle caps on my beer bottles and thinking "WTF is that all about". Just clean and sanitize any old soda bottle and cap. You can reuse the bottles and caps over and over. I use PET amber beer bottles, but I started bottling in PET soda bottles. Very, very easy. Just make sure they're soda bottles, not water bottles. They need to have held carbonated beverages to start with to make sure they can handle the pressure.
Hi guys. I'm using the typical red-orange bottle capper of the lever, two-handed style. In both the first and second batches of beer, some of the bottles seems to be leaking a little gas through the caps because when handling them an audible hiss can be heard when putting the bottle close to the ear. Hi I had a similar issue I bottled a 10.5% triple in the grolsh flip top bottles, after 8 weeks conditioning, no carbonation at all, I suspected that those bottles were leaching air, I pulled all the bottles,,,added 1 coopers drop and 1/32tsp of CBC1 dry yeast, transferred to crown capped bottles 12oz, back in closet,,,after 2 weeks the .

Some bottle caps have O2 absorbing magic in the top, which would be no good anymore if the caps were in an open bag. Shouldn't be a deal breaker though. On the flip side, caps are fairly cheap so if you have doubt, may be best to toss them. The condition of the gasket is probably the defining variable.-Kevin . Reply. Anyone know a way I can test a bottle to see if it will hold the pressure needed for my homebrewing. I would like to test a bottle without wasting any of my homebrew (somekind of yeast sugar only combo maybe?). I'm trying to test 20 oz AZ plastic tea bottles.. Since, I could not feel any feedback/replies from experimentation and believing that could work, I did reuse successfully bottle caps. I reused two different bottle caps: those that I bought (old new!) and those from the commercial beer bottles !!! I reused only the caps that were: flat with only the side/edge bent; seal in good shape P.S., the bottle caps on the stubby bottles definitely come off easier than the ones on the taller bottles. When I did, I just bottled it in my beer bottles with caps. Turned out fine, just I'm wondering if there's any reason to use say, old wine bottles with a cork versus just the beer bottles with a cap. I kindda like the beer bottles approach, since if it gets opened, not that much in there, so almost always will be drank. I have cleaned bottle caps with iodophor and I have cleaned them with vodka. I ran out of vodka and iodophor in the same batch and i used the lightest alcohol I had left. This was a light rum. I notice a rummy aftertaste in some of the beers (probably ones that the caps didn't dry as well. What does everyone else do to clean the bottle caps?
I just got a good buy on some oxygen absorbing bottle caps. In reading the instructions, I find that the absorbtion properties of the caps are activated when they get wet. . I have 5 flip cap bombers. They don't have the original rubber seals on them, but I haven't changed them for over 13 years (I quit brewing for several years). Since starting brewing again, I would estimate the bottles/seals have been reused at least 50 times, probably more.
My preference for Bomber bottles are Dogfish, Jolly Pumpkin, and Belgian champagne style bottles (which take the larger European caps). I have a lot off Stone and Rogue bombers which work fine. The only Bomber bottles I would NOT recommend using are those from new Belgium.
